OK, please do post any CPU issues here, there certainly is some problem, I haven't quite narrowed it down yet, it must be due to interaction with certain apps or possibly hung apps.

Hi Kumar, what version of Word? I just tested with Word 2007 password protection on Windows 7 and didn't have an issue with WindowTabs compatibility

So it isn't related to XYplorer, were you able to see XYplorer in the switcher? Sounds like a more general crashing bug in WindowTabs?

Could you try running WindowTabs as Administrator (right click on WindowTabs shortcut and click "Run as Administrator")

Turion, yes it only reorganizes open windows.

Daniel, I see the bug, will be fixed in next minor release.

WindowTabs 2014.5.31 was just released and it includes some basic "workspace" support for saving and restoring window and group layout. Take a look at http://windowtabs.com/workspaces/ for more information and try it out by downloading the latest version http://windowtabs.com/download/. This is just a first step, I plan on incrementally improving this functionality based on your feedback with each release (every one to two months)

Just an update guys, I know this is taking ridiculously long. I'll be working on a basic version that many of you very intelligently suggested - don't worry about launching processes, just use the window title / process (with some wild card) to re-group already open windows. I'm going to give this a shot for the May release, it won't be perfect but at least we will have something out there we can talk about and improve on. Thank you for your almost infinite patience.

Anonymous, I understand your sentiment, I do know that many people are waiting on this feature and it will get done. I am working on a basic save and restore based on window titles now, adding full support for relaunching processes etc is a little more involved. The reason I'm working on some smaller features first is because there are some very simple, useful changes I can make relatively quickly and there is no sense sticking them behind a much larger feature like this. I take feedback on uservoice very seriously but since WindowTabs is currently a one man operation I have to make some compromises on where I invest my time - no one is more frustrated that this feature has been delayed than I am.

Maurice FlanaganAdminMaurice Flanagan (Admin, WindowTabs) commented  ·

I'm working on some smaller features first, there is a long queue of simple improvements / fixes that I want to get out the door before tackling this. I'm also adding a monthly "newsletter" email with the next release to provide a little clearer picture of what I'm working on, provide a little more transparency.

Scott, I was just about to update the status on this. Very excited about getting WindowTabs up on the big screen! Would love to hear out it goes!

Regarding save and restore, the first release of this will just provide the ability to launch a group which you must configure - basically, you can save a list of command lines to execute and window tabs will run them and grab the windows into a group. It sounds like that will probably be sufficient for your use case. I am shooting for end of next week for this.

I can't say exactly but I am actively working on this, highest priority currently.

Yes you most likely need to install the .net framework 3.5, it does not come with Windows 8.1

A couple questions to make sure I understand the idea:

                  2. So you would press the keyboard shortcut for the group, and the current active window would be sent to that group?
                  4. The alt tab would just show the windows in the current active group?
                  5. So you would define sizes and positions for a group, and tie those sizes to a keyboard shortcut for the group?

I would need to modify WT so that windows are not placed behind each other when grouped. If there is enough interest will do it as an option.

What version of WT are you running? I'm going to investigate this, if it activates when you click the "activate" button, then there must be an issue with the way it is doing the validation in the "background"

Maurice FlanaganAdminMaurice Flanagan (Admin, WindowTabs) commented  ·

That's correct, it does attempt to re-validate every two weeks. When you manually activate, does it activate successfully? It should be validating without requiring any intervention on your part. It is possible that when it attempts to validate, but then I would expect it to fail when you manually validate. I will look at this logic in the code and see if there is a problem.

Are you running into these problems with Citrix applications only, or with other applications too?

Is it possible that some of the Citrix windows are running as administrator? If so, try running WindowTabs as administrator.

So your power point files are not saved when you run WindowTabs? Could you try the latest version, I"m not sure how WindowTabs could cause this problem.

The latest version should use less memory, let me know if you are still running into this issue.

I need a little more information, I don't understand the issue. Could you contact me at support@windowtabs.com?
